Today’s artists use less tone and harmony layering, less time in the recording studio and fewer musical instruments to create their so called hits. Most of them seem to prefer easy and less creative tunes with standard musical patterns over full production music. And just when you are ready to accept this fact and become a slave to what is played on the radio, it comes along a song that breathes new life in to your musical boredom and makes you feel alive again. That’s what happened when we heard the new Extended play (EP) by none other than Master of Jam, Julian Vilante. We’ve been anxiously waiting for this release since June and I must admit that the wait was well worth it. Follow up to his successful release, Master of Jam VII, “Don’t Stop the Music” is simply hypnotic to say the least. But wait, there are three other mixes included in the Extended Play (EP) that are so different in melodic tonality that you think you are listening to a whole new song. This has always been JV’s talent in combining and blending tonal textures in a very unique and flavorful ways. This release affirms his mastery in musical composition and production. It has become synonymous that every time you listen to JV’s music you can bet on it to be an Ass shaking, Booty hanging, Bump N’ Grind kind of a beat. So far I have not been disappointed. The first song on the EP is a type of flavor that takes you back in time, and it only gets better with the second mix “Celestial” which truly shows JV’s artistry for musical composition. Given his musical resume and background, it is obvious that he is gifted with creating captivating melodies. The third track is an acoustical treat with a wonderful blend of classical solo guitar that picks up energy and tempo as the song progresses and finally blends in to a whole new melodic progression at the end. Unless, you are a professional composer/songwriter, you will not take notice of this subtle tonal blend that only a master can deliver. It is certainly pleasing to the ears, but it is even more impressive to those who understand musical composition. The last track titled “Cannabis” is very intriguing mix. Simply put, it is a mental ride that requires you to be on cloud nine, if you get my drift. So, as we continue to reminisce about the days of Earth, Wind & Fire to be awakened by simple drum loops and strange noises in the background, there comes a song that takes you back in time and remind you that the days of good music is not over yet. Don’t Stop the Music delivers a masterful melodic top 40 hit that blends today’s musical flavor with captivating remixes that covers variety of musical flavor. The most apparent musical presence is on the rhythm guitar, harmonies, handful of lead vocal layering cuts giving it a very unique blend of harmony.

Julian Vilante Don’t Stop the Music Now a days pop music is mainly created by people who sit in front of a machine following restricted musical formulas with some attempt of creativity and experimentation.
